Dear Rainer Ganahl,

As I have been studying Marx for many years, I have been interested in entering into contact with you for some time, as I find what I have read of your project extremely attractive. However, I am writing you today with something else specific in mind.

Together with critic Katy Siegel I am to produce a book for Thames and Hudson in a new series on contemporary art. Each is to have the form of a catalogue of an imaginary exhibition devoted to a particular theme. Our theme is "art and money". Thus we will be dealing with the relations between art and money and the similarities and differences between art and money as cultural phenomena, as exemplified and represented in art works. The goal is not simplistic debunking, but a serious analysis. Besides an introduction, there will be reproductions of works by around 40 contemporary artists, and also a roundtable discussion. We are interested (a) in including your Karl Marx project among the illustrated works and (b) in having you join the roundtable, which will be conducted over the internet, along with a number of other artists, critics, and theorists.

I am hoping you will respond to these proposals fairly soon, as we are under some time pressure in assembling our volume, and we are particularly interested in your participation.

Yours,

Paul Mattick
